The VCUG or voiding cystourethrogram is an imaging study of the bladder.

This x-ray test is used to evaluate for vesicoureteral reflux (backward flow of urine into the ureter and kidney), healing of bladder repairs, presence of a vesicovaginal or colovesical fistula and presence of a cystocele. This test requires placement of a bladder catheter during the procedure. Contrast dye is placed through the catheter with x-rays taken at several points during filling. After the bladder is full, the catheter is removed and the patient is asked to empty the bladder while x-rays are being taken. No preparation is needed prior to the study. For more information, please visit the Southwest Diagnostic Imaging ( ) website for further information on the x-ray test.
