Ditropan XL® (oxybutynin) is a medication used to treat patients with overactivity of the bladder (OAB).
The medication is one of several medications in the muscarinic receptor antagonist category. This medication has been found to be effective in treating urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and urge incontinence. The medication is taken one time per day, usually in the morning, however could be taken at night if treating nighttime frequency (nocturia). Most common side-effects of the medication include dry mouth, dry eyes, constipation, visual changes (blurry vision and difficulty focusing on close objects), and stomach upset. Patients with glaucoma, constipation, gastric emptying issues, bladder outlet obstruction, or cardiac arrthymias should take this drug with caution.
